We built this S-Type specifically at Jörg’s request. The ultra-thin nitro finish was modeled after the original 3-tone sunburst color from the 60s and, like the hardware, was elaborately aged. Jörg had some special requests that he couldn’t get “off the shelf,” so he contacted us to help him realize his vision. We designed the fretboard radius as a compound of 10-14″ and used medium stainless steel frets. The positions are marked by vintage “clay” dots on the Indian rosewood fretboard. A vibrato was not desired, so we opted for a fixed bridge from ABM. We also changed the positions of the potentiometers so that nothing gets in the way of the strumming hand and completely dispensed with one potentiometer in favor of a single master tone pot with a push-push switch to activate the dummy coil. The locking tuners from Gotoh, in combination with the bone nut, ensure optimum tuning stability. Beautiful, light red alder was used for the body. The flamed maple for the neck is thermally treated and, with its quarter sawn grain, ensures optimum stability and is relatively insensitive to weather influences. Finally, the three hand-wound pickups from Kloppmann in combination with a dummy coil ensure hum-free tone conversion with an authentic vintage single-coil sound.
