We built this Hydra at Jan’s request! For the body, we used a very light wood, Spanish cedar, also known as “Cedro.” It has the same tonal qualities and a comparable appearance to regular mahogany, but weighs only about half as much. In combination with the Indian rosewood top, it produces a beautifully balanced tone with warm mids and full overtones. The roasted maple neck with a Roichlite fingerboard is super stable and almost completely impervious to the elements. For a very natural look and feel, we opted for an oiled and waxed finish.
Thanks in part to its long neck joint, it delivers a very fast response and endless sustain – perfect for fast players who demand lightning-fast attack and precise tone. The ABM bridge combination of aluminum for the tailpiece and brass for the TOM bridge contributes to the highly resonant character of this instrument. We’ve also installed Schaller locking tuners with ebony knobs, ensuring excellent tuning stability.
The three hand-wound pickups from Harry Häussel deliver a classic rock sound – defined and with a wide harmonic range. Perfect for all styles of modern and progressive rock, as well as classic hard rock sounds.
