The finest woods and hardware, combined with know-how and the most careful workmanship – this Cupido sums it up. We have selected the best Cedro for the body and neck. Cedro (or Spanish Cedar) is a relative of mahogany. However, it is significantly lighter and is therefore in the same range of sound and appearance as the Swietenia mahogany, which was used for the legendary 1950s singlecuts. This means that this Cupido weighs just 3.2kg – a real lightweight for a singlecut!
We used a beautiful piece of Bosnian flamed maple for the top and a fine cocobolo with wooden bindings for the fingerboard. The two pickups from Harry Häussel ensure a creamy sound. The VIN in the bridge position is a classic PAF sound, which is slightly overwound. We have a P90 in the neck position, which sounds a little brighter and more open and therefore not quite as mumble as other HBs in the neck position. Both pickups are mounted with a Cocobolo ring to match the fingerboard. The HB can also be split into a single coil and both pickups can be individually adjusted via volume and tone for maximum control over the sound. The overall sound character is very “woody”, earthy and warm, with a direct response and endless sustain and resonance. Overall, very nice shimmering overtones and brilliance and therefore never tends to sound dull or mellwow. Ideal for all styles of rock and especially blues.
The slightly longer scale length of 25″ (635mm) ensures slightly greater string tension and a crisper sound than traditional singlecuts. The 24 mirror-polished stainless steel frets also ensure extremely smooth bendings and offer a very nuanced playing feel. On the hardware side, Schaller and ABM offer proven ones Quality and round off the concept of this noble guitar.
